Metz offers our clients a complete acid brick and tile package including membrane, mortar and movement joints materials as required to meet the particular service conditions. Coating systems include a wide array of chemistries, thickness and application techniques. The most common coatings are based on epoxy novolacs, however vinyl ester, fluoropolymer
and polyurethanes are also available. Metz manufacture a range of acid resistant resins, adhesives, grouts and mortars to resist the strongest chemicals in extremely demanding physical environments. These products are used in food and beverage processing plants, mining, chemical plants, oil & metal refineries and industrial plants to name a few applications.
Acid bricks differ from typical commercial bricks most significantly in their low absorption rates and variety of physical shapes available. Low absorption rates ensure aggressive chemicals do not penetrate the lining system. Special shapes enable complex and sometimes very large vessels to be lined in a manner maximising chemical, thermal and abrasion resistance.
Acid tiles are not only of lower porosity but also commonly much thicker than conventional tiles. This additional thickness contributes to high stability and additional physical protection providing an enhanced depth of matching chemical resistant grout.
Metz manufactures a broad range of corrosion resistant fixing materials to complement these acid resistant ceramics. This means a complete acid proof ceramic lining system from a single source is possible for our clients.
Metz chemical resistant coatings are used in corrosive environments where our clients wish to prevent attack of generally steel and concrete by extremely strong chemicals. Coatings are economical, highly chemical resistant layers usually of 100–300 microns per coat. Reinforcement or localised thickening is possible for areas experiencing heavy physical impacts, high abrasion or high thermal shock.
Acid resistant linings and toppings are heavier-duty systems than coatings. Linings are approx. 1–2 mm thick systems, toppings are normally 2–8 mm in thickness. Linings and toppings are more suitable than thinner coatings for repair of acid attacked concrete, for example when there is the need to replace cm, rather than mm of areas removed by highly corrosive chemicals. These materials may be either poured, sprayed or trowelled into place.
Metz manufacture a range of acid resistant concretes to resist the strongest chemicals in extremely demanding physical environments. Materials exist that require no further protective layers after placement, so ideal for shutdown rectification of badly chemical attacked areas. Alternatively for new projects the enhanced physical protection a thick concrete lining can provide is essential for long term performance.
