Metz Acid Brick XL
Core samples of concrete revealed that over 50mm of concrete had been destroyed by sulphuric acid. All of the existing acid bricks had to be removed, along with most of the concrete floor. Damaged tank bases were chipped back to remove all acid attacked concrete.
Sections were patched and a new concrete floor was installed using Metz 10 epoxy concrete. Sections of the wall at the base of the tank supports were filled with Metz 33EN-VG. Membrane Metz 95M was installed over the floor and the tank supports.
Metz XL 65mm thick acid bricks were bedded in Metz 6NF and grouted with Metz Sauereisen 65. Tank bases were coated with 5mm thick Metz 33EN-VG and sealed with Metz 4HB-EN.
Work was carried out in stages over a 6 month period with very limited access and severe work restrictions, due to the refinery being in operation at the time of the works.
